Senior Controls Support Engineer (Automation)
Role description
Automation | PLC | Siemens | Hybrid Working | International Travel
Solve the problems nobody else can.
If you're the engineer your team turns to when a complex automation issue needs fixing, this could be exactly the challenge you've been looking for.
We're looking for a Senior Controls Support Engineer to become the technical escalation point for highly automated material handling systems used by some of the world's leading organisations.
You'll investigate complex control system issues, identify root causes, implement permanent improvements, and work with cutting-edge automation technology that's operating 24/7 across international sites.
This isn't a role where you'll simply close tickets. You'll influence how systems evolve, improve reliability, share technical expertise across the engineering team, and occasionally travel to customer sites across Europe and beyond to deliver upgrades and system improvements.
What you'll be working with
You'll support advanced automated systems built around:
- Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal
- PROFINET, Profibus, AS-i and Industrial Ethernet
- Industrial control networks
- Linux and QNX based control systems
- C++ based Flow System Control software
- Industrial PCs, motor controllers, sensors and field devices
What you'll be doing
- Investigating and resolving high-level technical incidents
- Leading root cause analysis and implementing permanent solutions
- Supporting major system upgrades and technical changes
- Working closely with customers and engineering teams
- Improving processes, tools and system performance
- Mentoring colleagues and sharing technical knowledge
- Reviewing technical documentation and service procedures
- Providing expert support remotely and on customer sites
What we're looking for
You'll ideally have experience with:
- Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal
- PROFINET, Profibus, AS-i or industrial networking
- Reading electrical schematics
- Automation, intralogistics, manufacturing, logistics or industrial control systems
- Strong analytical and fault-finding skills
- Excellent communication skills in English
You'll also be happy to join a compensated on-call rota every 5 to 6 weeks and travel internationally for around 25% of your time.
What's on offer?
- Hybrid working, typically 2 days from home
- 40 days annual leave
- Flexible working hours
- €300 annual wellbeing allowance
- Full public transport reimbursement
- Home working allowance
- On-site gym and health facilities
- Continuous technical training and career development
- International travel opportunities
- Modern offices with excellent facilities and barista coffee
Why apply?
This is an opportunity to become the technical expert on systems that keep global operations moving.
You'll work with modern automation technology, solve genuinely challenging engineering problems, travel internationally, and join a collaborative team where knowledge sharing and continuous improvement are part of everyday life.
