Software Engineer
Role description
Do you have experience with PLC programming and industrial automation, and would you like to see your software come to life in complex machinery? In this role, you work on the complete machine control process: from software design and programming to testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
Organization
You will join a medium-sized technical organisation in the Bergen op Zoom region that designs and builds complex, custom-made machinery and technical installations in-house. Engineering and production work closely together, allowing you to work directly with Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Automation Engineers, and production colleagues.
The organisation has a practical and technical culture, with short communication lines and a strong focus on delivering reliable, high-quality solutions. Because engineering and production are closely connected, you can quickly see how your software performs in practice and directly contribute to improvements.
Job Description
As a Software Engineer / PLC Engineer, you will be responsible for the control software of custom-built machines and technical installations. You will translate functional and technical specifications into software designs and develop PLC controls, HMIs, and machine visualisations.
You will remain involved throughout the complete process, from initial software development through simulation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning. This combination of engineering and practical implementation gives you the opportunity to see your software operate on real machinery and work directly with colleagues to solve technical challenges.
Every project is different, providing continuous opportunities to develop your automation expertise and create reliable, practical software solutions for complex machines.
Responsibilities
- Translate functional and technical specifications into software designs.
- Develop and program PLC software using platforms such as CODESYS, Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff/TwinCAT, Bachmann, or comparable systems.
- Develop HMIs and user-friendly machine visualisations.
- Perform simulations, bench tests, and functional testing.
- Test and commission machines in the company's own workshop and occasionally at customer locations.
- Troubleshoot software and control-related issues and implement appropriate solutions.
- Manage software versions, design changes, and technical documentation.
- Work closely with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and production to ensure reliable machine operation.
Who We Are Looking For
- MBO+/HBO level in Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a comparable technical field.
- Experience as a Software Engineer, PLC Engineer, Automation Engineer, or a similar role within machinery or industrial automation.
- Experience with one or more PLC platforms such as CODESYS, Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff/TwinCAT, or Bachmann.
- Experience with HMIs or machine visualisation is an advantage.
- Practical understanding of industrial automation, machine controls, and software development.
- You work accurately and systematically, with a strong focus on safe, practical, and reliable solutions.
- Independent and proactive, with good communication and problem-solving skills.
- A reasonable level of proficiency in the Dutch language is required for this position.
What We Offer
- A gross monthly salary of €4,000 to €5,800, depending on knowledge and experience.
- A generous leave allowance.
- Technically advanced and custom-built machines that are designed and manufactured in-house.
- Involvement throughout the complete process, from software development to testing and commissioning.
- Direct collaboration with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and production.
- A high level of independence and responsibility within your role.
- Opportunities to further develop your technical and automation skills.
- The opportunity to see your own software running on machines in practice.
