Commissioning Engineer
Role description
We are currently recruiting for an Automation & Commissioning Engineer to join a growing automation business in Amsterdam.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with 2–3 years of automation experience who wants to develop their technical expertise while working on highly automated packing and palletising systems across the food & beverage, pharmaceutical and wider industrial sectors.
You’ll gain hands‑on experience across the full commissioning process, work with a range of automation technologies and travel internationally to customer sites across the Netherlands and wider Europe.
The company is committed to developing its engineers and offers structured training, mentorship and a clear pathway towards future Project Manager or Technical Team Leader positions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the installation, pre-commissioning and start‑up of automated packing and palletising systems
- Commission complete production lines and integrate PLC logic with third‑party equipment
- Develop and modify PLC programmes using Ladder Logic and Structured Text
- Work with Siemens, Rockwell and B&R automation platforms
- Configure and troubleshoot communication networks, VFDs, servomotors and automation peripherals
- Integrate equipment including robotics, labellers, barcode readers, checkweighers and vision systems
- Read and interpret electrical schematics
- Troubleshoot automation and electrical issues during commissioning
- Travel to customer sites across the Netherlands and Europe to support system start‑up
- Work from home between commissioning projects

Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience working with PLCs
- 2–3 years of automation setup, commissioning or similar experience
- Experience with Structured Text
- Strong PLC programming skills, particularly with Siemens
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Industrial Engineering, Electronics or a related engineering discipline
- Fluent or professional English
- Willingness to travel across Europe
- Valid passport and driving licence
- Right to work in the Netherlands
