Product Development Engineer

Position Summary
Worden has been designing and manufacturing high quality furniture products for more than 75 years. As a Product Development Engineer, you will play an important role in bringing new products from concept through production, partnering with customers, suppliers, and internal teams along the way. This is a hands on opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving problems, improving products and processes, and seeing their work come to life in a manufacturing environment.
Product Development
- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to develop and launch new products while maintaining strong working relationships
- Develop and communicate product concepts through sketches, CAD models, drawings, and prototypes
- Apply engineering expertise and problem solving to develop solutions that improve quality, manufacturability, cost, profitability, and time to market
- Create and maintain project schedules, bills of materials, quotes, product documentation, SolidWorks models, and drawings
- Manage multiple projects and priorities independently, providing regular updates to customers and internal teams
- Support packaging development, standard work documentation, and training of production team members on new products and processes
- Conduct failure analysis, determine root causes, and implement appropriate solutions
Product Lifecycle and Continuous Improvement
- Create and manage Engineering Change Orders and coordinate product changes with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
- Identify, recommend, and implement product and process improvements
- Develop quotes for customer special requests and product modifications
- Participate in continuous improvement, Lean, ISO, quality, and safety initiatives
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and accountable team environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline
- 3 or more years of relevant engineering or product development experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment
- Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software
- Strong technical problem solving, organization, project management, and communication skills
- Ability to work directly with customers and translate requirements into practical product solutions
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing principles
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects independently with limited direction
- Experience with woodworking principles, furniture construction, or furniture assembly preferred
- Experience with cost estimating, product costing, or pricing preferred
- Experience with Infor SyteLine or a similar ERP/MRP system preferred
- Ability to work additional hours as business needs and project demands require
