Graph Database Engineer
Location
Amsterdam, Netherlands (Hybrid – 2-3 days onsite per week)
The Opportunity
We are supporting a global technology and consulting organisation delivering large-scale digital transformation and data modernisation programmes for enterprise clients.
As part of continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Graph Database Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team working on complex knowledge graph, data platform, and cloud transformation initiatives.
This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting‑edge graph technologies, modern cloud environments, and large-scale enterprise datasets while collaborating with architects, data engineers, and software development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimise graph database solutions using technologies such as Neo4j, AWS Neptune, or similar platforms
- Build scalable backend applications using Java and/or Kotlin
- Develop and optimise graph queries using Cypher, SPARQL, and related technologies
- Design data models for complex business domains and interconnected datasets
- Develop and integrate microservices and RESTful APIs
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions
- Improve database performance, reliability, and scalability
- Support large-scale data ingestion and transformation pipelines
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and engineering best practices
Required Experience
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- Strong hands‑on experience with Java and/or Kotlin development
- Proven expertise with Graph Database technologies including Neo4j, AWS Neptune, or equivalent platforms
- Strong understanding of graph query languages such as Cypher and/or SPARQL
- Experience with data modelling and complex data structures
- Experience designing and implementing Microservices Architectures
- Strong REST API development and integration experience
- Experience working within AWS or other cloud environments
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment in Amsterdam
- RDF, OWL, or Semantic Web technologies
- Docker and Kubernetes
- Graph algorithms and optimisation techniques
- Experience within enterprise consulting or customer‑facing delivery environments
