You’ll play a key role in managing institutional donor reporting, contractual compliance, and due diligence, all while supporting our mission to fund feminist activism worldwide.

At Mama Cash, we’re looking for an Interim Senior Project Controller to help us ensure financial integrity and transparency in everything we do. You’ll play a key role in managing institutional donor reporting, contractual compliance, and due diligence, all while supporting our mission to fund feminist activism worldwide.

You’ll be part of a hybrid team with flexibility to work from home and enjoy our vibrant office in the heart of Amsterdam.

As Interim Senior Project Controller, you’ll be the financial lead on institutional donor projects — from the first budget draft to the final audit. You’ll also lead our Grant Administration Unit and act as a strategic sparring partner within the finance team. Your work will be both operational and strategic, and always aligned with our feminist values.

1. Lead the full financial cycle of institutional donor funding

You’ll be the go-to person for all financial aspects of institutional fundraising and donor contract management. That includes:

• Developing project budgets in close collaboration with fundraising and programme teams.
• Assessing donor requirements and advising on feasibility and compliance.
• Leading financial negotiations and ensuring smooth contract execution.
• Monitoring project implementation and advising on risks and corrective actions.
• Preparing financial reports, forecasts, liquidity requests, and internal overviews.
• Coordinating internal and external meetings, audits, and compliance processes.
• Managing complex donor contracts (e.g. MoFa), including alliance-level coordination and financial governance.

2. Lead and coach the Grant Administration Unit

You’ll supervise and support a small team of grant administrators, ensuring strong financial oversight of our grantmaking. You will:

• Review grantee-partner budgets and financial reports.
• Assess financial capacity and compliance for donor-funded projects.
• Strengthen internal processes and align procedures with donor requirements.
• Collaborate closely with the Senior Financial Controller and Risk & Compliance Officer on strategic improvements.

3. Be a strategic finance partner across the organisation

You’ll ensure that donor-funded project data is accurate and integrated into our broader financial systems. You’ll also:

• Contribute to quarterly and annual reporting, budgeting, and audits.
• Lead on donor project audits and support the development of our Finance Manual.
• Collaborate with colleagues across teams to improve financial workflows and governance.
• Actively participate in team meetings and support the Director of People, Finance and Operations (DPFO) as needed.

You’re a strategic thinker with a sharp eye for detail — and a deep commitment to feminist values. You’re just as comfortable diving into spreadsheets as you are coaching colleagues or negotiating with donors. You bring a mix of technical expertise, people skills, and a passion for justice.

We’re looking for someone who brings:

• A strong interest in women’s rights, feminist philanthropy, and social justice movements — and alignment with Mama Cash’s mission and values.
• Knowledge of women’s rights movements, human rights frameworks, and the work of women’s funds.
• A solid understanding of the life cycles of social justice organisations, and experience supporting their growth in areas like governance, staffing, fundraising, and systems.
• Strong programme and project management skills — you’re organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage complexity while keeping others on track.
• Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal — with the ability to translate financial concepts for non-financial audiences and vice versa.
• Knowledge of financial administration, business administration, and accounting principles.
• Experience working in international, rights-based or development-focused organisations is a plus — especially with feminist activist groups and their funding contexts.
• Familiarity with bilateral donor requirements and institutional funding landscapes.
• Strong Excel skills; experience with CRM and bookkeeping systems (Salesforce and Exact) is a plus.
• A collaborative mindset — you build trust quickly and enjoy working across teams.
• Fluency in English is required; Dutch is a strong plus.
