Need a locum provider who can provide full-time coverage from July to Dec 2027, with the possibility of continuing beyond year-end. Do NOT submit candidates who can do 1 or 2 weeks per month. Do NOT submit candidates ONLY for weekend coverage.
The Hematology/Oncology locum need is unique. We are looking for a full-time candidate who can commit to four weeks per month and assist with call rotation. Having a single, primary oncologist provides continuity of care, better coordination of treatment, and a deeper doctor-patient relationship, which can lead to better outcomes and a higher quality of life during and after cancer treatment, therefore, the team does not wish to split the assignment between multiple candidates.
Candidate Requirements
- Active IN State License or IMLC.
- Provider must be board certified in BOTH Hematology and Oncology.
- Minimum Years Experience (if applicable): More than 2 years
- Flu vaccination: Required or Need Medical or religious exemption.
- BLS-AHA issued Required for all specialties
- Clinic is a 4-day week 8am-5pm with 1-hour unpaid lunch. This provider will have Monday off.
- Weekend Call is Fri 5pm Mon 7am on a rotation
- On call rotation with providers and on call rotation back up with APP s.
- Clinic - 18 -20 patients per day
- 35% Hem, 65% Onc
- 2 Oncologists
- 4 APP s
- The APP s see most Hematology patients, and the oncologists see the Cancer patients.
- Each current oncologist sees 18-20 patients daily, and the APPs see 14-18 patients daily.
Candidate will be set up on a TEAMS interview with one or both oncologists, our practice manager and practice director prior to any job offer. The best times for the interview are Mon Thurs 12:15pm 12:30pm or 12:30pm 12:45pm EST.
FAQ
Approximately how many patients are there in the hospital to round on during the weekend?
Usually, the oncologist waits until Sunday to round 10-12 patients and handle any consults that come in from Friday evening to Sunday am. There is never an emergency cancer patient a hospitalist cannot handle; they may call for opinions.
Is there a nurse/APP on call to field phone calls or hospital consults?
No, the APPS take their own turn being primary call with one of our main oncologists as back up if they have questions.
Is it usual that the on-call oncologist must go back to the hospital after they have made their rounds for the day?
No, the hospitalist usually handles it, or again it can wait until the next day or Monday morning. If a new consult is placed it can wait, if it s something they really need an oncologist for the hospitalists team will call and let you know but 90% of the time it can wait. We have 24-48 hours to complete consults.

- Covid vaccination: Required or Need Medical or religious exemption.
- Certifications: ACLS - Required if requesting conscious sedation privileges, BLS Required for all specialties.
